Competition Council: Bank fees higher in Romania than in most EU countries
Bank fees in Romania are very high compared to other EU countries, according to the annual report of the Competition Council on competition in key sectors of the economy.
Romania ranks fourth among the countries with the highest costs related to a payment account in 2009, read a European Commission study quoted by the Competition Council. These costs exceeded the EU average by EUR 50.
"The Internet Banking service, which is free in most European countries, is charged about EUR 1 by banks in our country," according to the annual report on competition, quoted by Agerpres.
