Number of new coronavirus cases remains high in Romania
Romanian officials reported 1,346 new cases of coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours, according to the official daily report released on Thursday, August 20. The total number of COVID-19 cases in Romania thus went up to 74,963.
Most new cases were reported in Bucharest (173), and the counties of Prahova (108) and Bihor (85).
Separately from the new cases, a total of 913 patients retested positive for the COVID-19 infection.
More than 1.59 million tests were performed in Romania so far, of which 24,323 in the last 24 hours.
Almost 34,200 patients were declared cured so far, and 8,820 asymptomatic patients were discharged ten days after the diagnosis.
The death toll has risen to 3,154, according to the same report. A total of 48 deaths were reported between August 19 (10:00) and August 20 (10:00), in the age categories of 40-49 years (4 deaths), 50-59 years (7 deaths), 60-69 years (15 deaths), and 70-79 years (11 deaths), and 80+ years (11 deaths). Forty-six of the patients had previous medical conditions.
The number of COVID-19 patients treated in intensive care units was 489 on Thursday, August 20. In total, almost 7,200 coronavirus patients are hospitalized.
More than 10,200 people confirmed with the new coronavirus infection are isolated at home, and 5,605 are in institutionalized isolation. Also, 29,058 people are under quarantine at home, and 9 are in institutionalized quarantine.
