Officials reported 1,030 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, a record number for Romania since the start of the pandemic. Thus, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country reached 40,163 on Wednesday, July 22, according to the daily official report. 

The previous daily record was registered on Tuesday, July 21, when the Romanian authorities reported 994 infections in 24 hours.  

More than 1 million tests were performed in Romania so far, of which 24,877 in the last 24 hours. 

A total of 24,663 patients were declared cured so far, and 2,693 asymptomatic patients were discharged ten days after the diagnosis, the same report said. 

Meanwhile, the death toll has risen to 2,101. A total of 27 deaths were reported between July 21 (10:00) and July 22 (10:00), in the age categories of 30-39 years (2 deaths), 40-49 years (one death), 50-59 years (3 deaths), 60-69 years (6 deaths), and 70-79 years (9 deaths), and 80+ years (6 deaths).

In specialized health units, the total number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 is 5,179. Of these, 293 patients are treated in intensive care units.

The same report announced that 336 people confirmed with the new coronavirus infection are isolated at home, and 213 people are in institutionalized isolation.
