Council of Europe Secretary General visits Romania, justice, corruption and Roma issues on the agenda

Conférence sur la cybercriminalité Cybercrime ConferenceElectoral and justice reforms, combating corruption and the Roma community will be the main topics for Secretary General of the Council of Europe,Thorbjørn Jagland's (in picture) visit to Romania this week. During his two-day stay, over March 20 and 21, the Secretary General will have meetings with President Traian Basescu and Prime Minister Victor Ponta, albeit separately.

Jagland will meet a number of ministers, including the heads of the two chambers of Romanian government, Crin Antonescu and Valeriu Zgonea, as well as Justice Minister Mona Maria Pivniceru and Foreign Affairs Minister Titus Corlăţean.

On Thursday, the Council of Europe official is scheduled to see Andrea Schmidt Hăineală, Prosecutor, President of the Superior Council of Magistracy, and members of the Superior Council of Magistracy. Jagland will also make a visit to a school in Bucharest, in the Ferentari district.

Secretary General Jagland's visit will end with a joint press conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, before a seminar celebrating 20 years since Romania joined the Council of Europe.
