Creative expansion: Mega Image opens large supermarket in Bucharest on premises of former car repair unit
Retailer Mega Image has opened a new supermarket in Bucharest, on some 700 sqm, on the premises of a former Radacini car repair unit on Ferdinand boulevard in the Eastern part of the capital. It took the retailer only a couple of weeks to reshape the large space and turn it into a store.
Together with this opening in Bucharest, Mega Image has also inaugurated three other smaller size stores, 77 to 120 sqm, all three in the seaside city of Constanta. The recent openings bring the number of Mega Image stores in Romania to a whopping 367.
Mega Image is one of the most active retailers in Romania, with frequent openings, and numerous shops in all regions of Bucharest, as well as of other large cities across Romania. So far, the retailer has been renting out retail spaces of different sizes at the ground floor of blocks of flats - a very frequent type of retail space in Bucharest - but more recently, it went for alternative spaces, such as the former car repair unit, which provided enough space for a large format store.
The largest Mega Image unit in Bucharest covers some 2,300 sqm, at the ground floor of a building erected by Mega Image at Sudului square in Bucharest. Another large shop is located at Gemeni square, and covers some 1,600 sqm.
The retailer, part of the Belgian group Delhaize, runs shops under the brands Mega Image, Shop&Go, AB COOL FOOD, and Mega Drive in Bucharest, Constanta, Ploiesti, Pitesti, Brasov, Targoviste, among others.
