Jean Negulesco was a Romanian director and screenwriter, a pioneer in cinemascope, a wide-screen technique in the 1950s. He has worked for the major American film studios such as Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros. and 20th Century Fox and he has received his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Some of Romania's biggest cities have a rich history, have witnessed the creation of the country's culture and some of them are currently flourishing business hubs. Romania-insider.com starts a series of articles presenting major Romania cities. This week's pick is Timisoara, the first mainland European city to to be lit by electric street lamps in 1884. This was also the city where the anti-communist revolution spark started in 1989.

Allegro, a company of the South – Africa-based media group Naspers has taken over 83 percent in local Gecad ePayment from Romania businessman Radu Georgescu (in picture). Naspers is at its second acquisition in Romania, after buying the Autovit.ro website.

Germany will liberalize its labor market for seasonal workers, starting January 1, 2011, Romanian Prime Minister Emil Boc said Tuesday after talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Boc said Romania salutes Germany's decision to liberalize its labor market for temporary workers, as of January 1, 2011.

Romanian Prime Minister Emil Boc has recently said Romania will pay its debt to German companies doing business in the country. The Romanian PM talked about the country's debt to German companies to German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who is on an official visit to Romania.

Romania wants to establish a strategic partnership with the Federal Republic of Germany that should offer a favourable framework for a wider development of the two states' bilateral relations, Prime Minister Emil Boc told visiting German Chancellor Angela Merkel (in picture) at the beginning of a bilateral meeting at the Victoria Palace on Tuesday.

Update: Adevarul Holding, a media company owned by Romanian businessman Dinu Patriciu (in picture), has received the license to start a generalist TV station called Adevarul TV and a network of 40 local stations, all with an investment of EUR 37 million.

About one third of the 3,000 employees of shipyard Daewoo - Mangalia Heavy Industries (DMHI) in southeastern Romania Monday went on general strike indefinitely disgruntled that they were denied a salary increase. Unionists demand a RON 300 lei (EIR 70.4) salary increase and a new collective work contract to be valid until the end of 2011.

Romania’s Agriculture Minister Valeriu Tabara (in picture) said an increase in prices of agri-food products is ungrounded and artificial, adding food processors and those selling food products siphon off profits in the system, to the detriment of raw material producers and consumers.

A vertical garden under the shape of an arch is being built near the Unirii area in Bucharest, in front of the future National Library. It will be 6.5 meters tall and covers 200 sqm. The vertical garden will stay green throughout the entire year.

Telecom solutions provider Huawei hopes to reach a 10 percent market share of mobile telephony sales in Romania by 2011, with plans to launch six new models by mid next month. The company had announced earlier this summer its plans to launch a PC tablet by the end of the year, which will sell at EUR 350.
