A Gazprom delegation led by the Russian company's general manager Alexei Miller is expected in Bucharest on Wednesday, to meet Economy Minister representatives, according to Agepres, quoting Government sources. The Economy Minister Ion Ariton will attend the meeting, along with Romgaz representatives.

The German Chancellor Angela Merkel will visit Romania on Tuesday after an official trip to Bulgaria yesterday. On her first official visit to Romania, Merkel will meet Romanian president Traian Basescu and Prime Minister Emil Boc. She will also visit the Babes- Bolyai university in Cluj, where she will receive the Doctor Honors Causa title. Merkel will also attend the inauguration of the German Studies Institute at the Babes- Bolyai university.

The Museum of Cycladic Art in Athens, Greece houses the exhibition titled "The Lost World of Old Europe: The Danube Valley 5000-3500 BC," which includes more than 2500 archaeological items, most of them coming from Romania's heritage. The exhibition will be on until January 10 next year.

As many as 700 Volksbank clients have started legal procedures against the bank on the allegedly illegal contract clauses added by the bank after the issuance of the Government Ordinance 50. The bank clients are represented by Piperea & Asociatii law firm, the firm has announced.

Tudor Bercan is the new territory manager for the South Eastern Europe with Polycom. He has been promoted from the channel manager position. Bercan, who joined Polycom in April 2007, will now supervise the entire SEE business for Polycom.

Employees' union National Syndicate Block (BNS) plans to create information centers for foreign workers outside the EU who come to work in Romania, offering them advice about the labor legislation in the country, allowing them to sign up to unions and represent their interest in front of employers.

Romania's trade deficit grew by 1.9 percent in the first eight months on the same period last year, to EUR 6.09 billion, with exports growing at a slightly higher pace than imports, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (INS).

Two Romanian movies, the feature length 'Tuesday after Christmas' and the short movie 'Lord' were awarded at the Francofon Film festival in Namur, Belgium last week. “Tuesday after Christmas', directed by Radu Muntean, got the ' Bayard d'Or du Meilleur film' award, while actor Mimi Branescu received the best actor award. 'Lord', a short movie directed by Adrian Sitaru, received the ' Bayard d'Or du Meilleur Court Métrage - Prix François-Bovesse' award.
