The lower Chamber of the Romanian Parliament voted on Monday the draft law on the National Integrity Agency (ANI) with 204 to two votes and two abstentions. Members of the social democratic (PSD) opposition party refused to vote on the bill and left the meeting.

Four babies have died after a blast which took place at Giulesti Maternity hospital in Bucharest last evening. The fire, which started started in the resuscitation unit, was soon after extinguished, but 11 newborn babies were affected. They were one or two days old and premature born. As events unfolded, not all the babies had been identified, while mothers were waiting outside the hospital for news.

Romanian diplomat Gabriel Grecu, who was working in Romania's embassy in Moscow, has been detained for being allegedly involved in the stealth of secret military information in Russia, according to Reuters, quoting Russia's Security Service.

Works on the second stage of the China Town Romania real estate project, which should reach a value of EUR 50 million, will start on August 17. This phase of works should be finalized in 2013, according to the Chinese- Romanian Chamber of Commerce.

Bike sharing has become an increasingly popular activity in Bucharest. I'Velo's bike sharing centers saw as many as 15,000 people using their bikes in the first week of August across Romania. Half of the users for I'Velo's free bikes were from Bucharest. Iasi and Cluj – Napoca followed with over 2,000 rentals each during the first week of August. Constanta came among last, with a bot over 1,000 rentals and, Targu Mures, with just below 800.

The net assets of the nine privately managed pensions funds in Romania reached EUR 835 million in July this year, which is a 49.2 percent increase compared to December 2009, according to the Private Pensions System Surveillance Commission. The value of private pension funds assets has increased two-fold compared to June 2009.

Axl Rose, the leading singer of rock band Guns n'Roses, has announced the cancellation of all upcoming concerts. The announcement came on his Twitter account. However, media reports quoting various concert organizers say this was a hoax.

Telecom operator Orange will launch a pre-paid card for Internet access tomorrow, with prices starting EUR 5, the company has announced. The announcement comes soon after its competitors, Vodafone and Comoste, had already launched such services.
