A Romanian researcher who invented a device which could detect cancer in early stages works on testing the device and eventually producing it in Romania, with the launch expected early next year. Researcher Raluca-Ioana van Staden has become famous for the invention which has been awarded internationally. After working several years abroad, teaming up with her husband, she chose to come back to Romania to help create a strong Romanian research team. She has talked to romania-insider.com about this invention, which could be expanded to detecting other diseases in the future.
The chamber music festival SoNoRo 2010 „ Un ballo in maschera“, makes its debut on October 31. The distinctive mark of this year’s edition is the two-artist photo exhibition, dedicated to masks, signed Hiroshi Watanabe and Dragos Lumpan.

Zoltan Boszormenyi was born in 1951 in Arad, Romania. He started out studying ballet at a Hungarian high school in Cluj, he arrived in Canada where he graduated from York University of Toronto with a major in philosophy and now he is among the best known Romanian-born writers.
Romanian writer Norman Manea will be on a tour in Spain in the first part of October, where he will meet Spanish writer Antonio Muñoz Molina. The tour is organized by the Romanian Cultural Institute in Madrid (ICR).
“I started taking pictures of everyday life, like a tragy-comedy. I was hoping to be able to gather these images in a book twenty years later” – remembers architect Andrei Pandele.
Sergiu Celibidache was a famous Romanian conductor and composer who is best known for his high artistic standards as well as his meticulous rehearsal style. He always conducted from memory and he only made a couple of studio recordings, believing that recordings represented “the negation of music”.
