Jean Negulesco was a Romanian director and screenwriter, a pioneer in cinemascope, a wide-screen technique in the 1950s. He has worked for the major American film studios such as Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros. and 20th Century Fox and he has received his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

There is a vibrant world waiting to be discovered across Romania, outside capital city Bucharest and much of it rests unknown. Some of Romania's biggest cities have a rich history, have witnessed the creation of the country's culture and some of them are currently flourishing business hubs. Romania-insider.com starts a series of articles presenting major Romania cities. This week's pick is Timisoara, the first mainland European city to to be lit by electric street lamps in 1884. This was also the city where the anti-communist revolution spark started in 1989.

The Museum of Cycladic Art in Athens, Greece houses the exhibition titled "The Lost World of Old Europe: The Danube Valley 5000-3500 BC," which includes more than 2500 archaeological items, most of them coming from Romania's heritage. The exhibition will be on until January 10 next year.

Several Romanian artists have started to become famous abroad, some even more famous internationally than in their home country. They have started to work with international producers, deliver European tours and rank high in European charts, while shooting their videos abroad. It's a rainy, beginning of autumn day in Bucharest and I'm heading to Kathrin Weident's photo studio to watch her take pictures. Not the best day to be outdoors but a good one to watch creativity at work. I had met Kathrin for an interview during the summer. Her story unfolded slowly as we talked: she had moved from Germany to Romania and pursued her dream to set up her own photography studio here.

The White Horse is a very traditional style British pub in Dorobanti which started in 1997, one of the originals on the night life scene in Bucharest. As you walk in off the street past the red telephone box you enter the ground floor bar area which has a very solid dark wooden, island bar design in the middle of the floor.

Sergiu Celibidache was a famous Romanian conductor and composer who is best known for his high artistic standards as well as his meticulous rehearsal style. He always conducted from memory and he only made a couple of studio recordings, believing that recordings represented “the negation of music”.
