Drop in consumption sends biggest retailers' sales down EUR 700 million
The biggest retailers in Romania run businesses worth EUR 7.5 billion in total last year, shows the recently published Top 100 companies in Romania report by Romania Insider. Last year, these 15 companies together posted sales of EUR 8.2 billion in total, the report shows.
The 15 retailers included in the top are Metro Cash & Carry, Carrefour, Kaufland, Real Hypermarket, Selgros Cash and Carry, Rewe, Cora, Pludi Market, Arabesque, Auchan, Billa Romania, Praktiker Romania, Dedeman, Alex and Bricostore.
Do-it-yourself players make EUR 1 billion market
Out of these companies, Arabesque, Praktiker, Dedeman and Bristore are active on the do-it-yourself segment. These companies together posted a turnover of almost EUR 1 billion. A year before, the value was at EUR 1.2 billion.
Cash and Carry segment drives market down EUR 500 million
The cash & carry segment, represented by two players – Metro Cash & Carry and Selgros Cash & Carry, totaled EUR 2 billion. The year before, the cash and carry segment was of almost EUR 2.5 billion, based on the two players' turnovers.
The other retails on the market, which include hypermarkets, supermarkets, discounters and home appliance retailers (Altex) posted sales of EUR 4.4 billion taken as a whole, which stayed relatively the same compared to the previous year.
