Romania runs the risk of losing a part of the European funds allocated to it through the 2007-2013 financial programme which ends on December 31, this year, said European Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Cretu.

The EU funds’ absorption rate has now reached 63% in Romania, she added.

“It’s hard to achieve something that hasn’t been achieved in seven years,” Cretu said, cited by local Economica.net.

She made an appeal to all the local authorities in Romania to attract and submit major projects for attracting EU funds in the 2014-2020 programming period.

She spoke during a visit in Suceava, eastern Romania, mentioning that it was important that the funds were spent intelligently, so they had a big impact on the lives of Romanians.
