Exports trigger 60% increase in trade deficit
Trade deficit in Romania decreased by 60.6 percent in January compared with the similar period in 2010, at EUR 186 million due to a 47.8 increase in exports, up to EUR 3.4 billion, according to the National Statistics Institute.
Romania delivered goods worth EUR 2.45 billion to UE states, with almost 40 percent more in January 2011 than in the first month of 2010. The national exports directed to non-EU member states was up 72 percent, cumulating EUR 971 million. Imports to Romania were estimated at EUR 3.6 billion, up around 30 percent.
The advance of exports expressed in the national currency was of 51 percent and imports went up by 32 percent in January 2011, compared with January 2010. In December 2010, the national trade deficit was EUR 777.6 million, down 14.7 percent compared with December 2009.
