German/Romanian consortium wins contract for water system work in Maramureș, Northern Romania

waste water sxchuA consortium headed by German civil engineering firm Ludwig Pfeiffer Hoch und Tiefbau Gmbh has won the contract to carry out water supply and sewage work in Baia Mare, in the Maramureș area of Northern Romania. The contract is worth around EUR 14.2 million at the current exchange rate (nearly RON 63 million), according to public procurement details published by the EU. The value of the contract, tendered by the local public water utility Vital SA, is lower than the original projection, which was some EUR 16.2 million.

According to the EU's Tenders Electronic Daily (TED), the contract covers construction work for water and sewage pipelines, work related to water-distribution pipelines, water-main refurbishment and sewer construction work.

The winning consortium also includes Electroechipament Industrial, Intellinstal and Wurp Prest. Public water utility Vital SA is 87 percent owned by the Baia Mare Municipality. Eight offers were received in the tender and it appears European funding will be used.
