Google changes logo to celebrate Romanian writer Ion Luca Caragiale

Search engine Google celebrates today (January 30) 160 years since the birth of the Romanian writer Ion Luca Caragiale, through a specially-designed logo for this day. The new logo shows the Romanian writer, and the word ‘Google’ looks like it was written with a pen. Furthermore, the logo includes the image of a letter, which refers to ‘O scrisoare pierduta’ (A lost letter) a comedy written by Ion Luca Caragiale.

Ion Luca Caragiale was a Romanian playwritgh, journalist and political commentator who lived between 1852 and 1912. Of Greek origins, Caragiale is considered one of the most important Romanian writers.

He was born in the Romanian village of Haimanale - currently named I. L. Caragiale. He made his literary debut in 1873, at the age of 21, with poems and humorous chronicles. In 1988 become the director of the National Theater. He died in Berlin in 1912, where he had moved at the beginning of the century.
