Romania will rapidly outrun many countries in the region if it solves the transport issue, by using European funds to develop projects in this area, among others, said Andreas Treichl (in picture), general manager and president of the Erste group.

“The situation in Romania is difficult. I think Romania stands a better chance than Hungary to come out of the difficult situation because it has an advantage due to the reduced foreign debt and the better mix of workforce cost and productivity,” said Treichl in an investors' meeting in Dubrovnik.

The 'disastrous' situation of the transport infrastructure is the main factor that keeps Romania behind in investments and economic increase.  Treichl mentioned Romania's inability to attract European financing and said the country could outrun very rapidly many other states in the region if it solves this problem.

Erste group is present in Romania through BCR group, which it took over through privatization.
