How can you reach Romania’s former president?

29 January 2015

Former Romanian President Traian Basescu announced his new email address, which his friends and fans can use to reach him.

“Starting February 2, 2014, my new email address is traianbasescu@sofrad.ro,” Basescu apparently wrote on his Community Facebook Page. He added that this address is only for his friends. “For those who want to swear at me, please use the old address,” he wrote.

The new domain where the former president has his e-mail address is registered in the name of a Military Unit. This unit hosts the headquarters of the country's Special Telecommunication Service (STS), which also manages the domain.

This means the domain, registered in early - December 2014 and currently unavailable as a website, is secured by the country's uber telecom security body.

The STS organizes and coordinates special telecom activities for public authorities. It is structured as a military unit and is part of Romania's national defense system.

Traian Basescu ended his ten-year mandates as Romania’s President on December 21, 2014. He didn’t announce yet what he will do next. In the past month, he only posted a few photos of him with his family on Facebook.
