UPDATE: ING Romania fires head of treasury Florin Citu, who will challenge decision in court

The head of the Treasury department with ING Bank Romania, Florin Citu, has been fired but will challenge the decision in court, saying it was an abusive measure, according to Mediafax newswire.  “I have been fired abusively from the head of treasury position. I will challenge the decision in court. I have a very good relation with ING Bank and hope to get my job back following the court decision,” said Citu, quoted by Romania media.

Florin Citu, a Grinnell College graduate in the US, with a MA and a PhD from the Iowa State University, has been working with ING Bank Romania since 2006. He joined the bank as head economist and was later on promoted head of treasury and co-head of Financial Markets. Citu is also an associate researcher with the Group of Applied Economics (GEA).

UPDATE: The head of treasury with ING Bank was not fired, but the position was restructured, following an internal restructuration process according to ING Bank Romania representatives.  Citu has been offered a new position with the bank/ "I understand from his public statements that he is now happy with the new position," said Misu Negritoiu, CEO of ING Bank Romania.
