Investigations into alleged crime ring on beef distribution black market in Romania
Five people were detained for 24 hours and three others are under judiciary control after the Police started searched into several shops, restaurants and butcheries in Bucharest on Tuesday night, May 27.
Prosecutors say the suspects are part of a tax evasion crime ring. They alleged the group is made of drivers of beef distribution firms and hypermarket employees. According to the prosecutors, the drivers have been keeping 20 percent of the meat they had to deliver, and then sold it on the black market, to different restaurants and shops. The damage in this case amounts to some EUR 1.4 million, according to Digi24.
