KPMG: Mobile telephony operators bring 3% of Romania's GDP
The five existing mobile telephony companies in Romania – Vodafone, Orange, Cosmote, RCS & RDS and Telemobil /Zapp - brought around 3 percent of Romania's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) last year, the equivalent of some EUR 1.6 billion, according to Mihai Rada, director with KPMG Romania for technology, environment and telecom.
Of this amount, some EUR 88 million were salaries and bonuses for the 6,700 employees, EUR 990 million were payments to third parties for equipment and services. The contribution to the state budget was of almost EUR 0.5 billion, according to the KPMG representative.
A conference organized by Vodafone, Orange and Cosmote, gathering industry representatives and state officials takes place in Bucharest today (March 13), in the wake of the bidding process organized by the Romanian state for the mobile telephony spectra now owned by the existing mobile telephony operators.
