Masterbuild: demand for industrial constructions in Romania is robust
The growth in the construction sector at the beginning of 2023 comes mainly from the retail and manufacturing segment but also from the logistics sector, as international operators continue the development of networks in Romania, according to MasterBuild – a Romanian company specialising in special construction works.
Masterbuild's turnover was RON 74 mln (EUR 15 mln) in 2022, and, based on contracts already signed, it expects 25% growth this year.
Although the construction market faces major problems with rapid impacts, such as the lack of building materials and the constant changes from a legislative point of view, Masterbuild has a pipeline of new construction works of almost 200,000 sqm, representing contracts already signed in the first months of the year or under negotiation.
58% of the demand came last year from the retail sector (retail parks, shopping centres, formats of retail stores), 15% from the logistics segment (logistics parks and industrial or production facilities) and 27% from the public works segment. This year, the trend continues, with a significant volume of demand for new constructions recorded, especially in retail and production (factories and production facilities of international and local operators).
The public segment is also continuing its investments this year, both through projects funded by PNRR and from other sources, which will continue to generate demand in construction.
