MasterCard gets greenlight to license Romania's State Treasury for electronic payments

19 November 2014

MasterCard Romania has received the approval from the Ministry of Public Finance to license the State Treasury for electronic payments with MasterCard and Maestro cards, so that the online payment system can be implemented by March 2015.

“The taxpayer can view and pay his/her state debts, in a more simple, safe, comfortable and direct way,” said MasterCard general director Cosmin Vladimirescu.

“For the state, it means a faster and more efficient tax collection, while for the taxpayer it saves time and effort.” The licensing procedures and the implementation of the online service can last between six and 12 months, according to the Ministry of Public Finance. MasterCard wants to carry out the procedure by the end of March 2015.
