Metro unionists organize strike in Bucharest this week

11 June 2014

Metro unionists will organize a strike in front of the Government headquarters, to protest against the authorities’ decision to pass the metro under the authority of the General Council of Bucharest. The strikes will be organized for two days in a row, namely on Wednesday (June 11) and Thursday (June 12), between 12,00 and 13,45, reports local Agerpres.

The unionists also ask for the maintenance contract signed with Alstom Transport to be reviewed and the cleaning conditions at the metro to be solved. They also want the provisions of the Memorandum signed by Prime Minister Victor Ponta in September 2013 to be respected, as well as the CCM — Metrorex provisions in force, on granting salary increases directly proportional with the inflation rate.

“The failure to solve these claims will lead to a further fight of the trade union, through several actions organized by respecting the law, including the start of a general strike as soon as the current collective labor contract will come to an end,” according to unionists, quoted by Agerpres newswire.
