More foreign tourists reach Romania in August, mostly from Hungary, Bulgaria, Poland
The number of foreign tourists who entered Romania was 8.9 percent higher in August compared with the same month a year before, while the number of tourists accommodated was down 15.2 percent on the year, the National Statistics Institute said Monday. Romanian tourists accounted for 81.9 percent of the total, while foreign tourists represented 18.1 percent in August, similarly to the same period a year before.
Most of foreign visitors, representing 95 percent, come from European countries, while 56.4 percent come from EU member states. Hungary accounts for the highest number of tourists who entered Romania, with 32.2 percent, followed by Bulgaria with 15.9 percent, Poland – 10.2 percent, Germany- 9.7 percent, Italy – 7.4 percent and Austria – 3.8 percent.
The number of Romanian tourists traveling abroad in August was down 2 percent on the month.
