Napoleon's autographs, rare manuscripts on sale at Bucharest auction

Rare manuscripts, autographs of important personalities, medals, letters signed by celebrities, and other unique objects from the collection of late Romanian politician Corneliu Vadim Tudor will be on sale at an auction organized by Artmark on November 24.

The most expensive items include three handwritten signatures of Napoleon Bonaparte (starting price – EUR 7,000), a Montegrappa Roma Aeterna pen (starting price – EUR 6,500), a letter of French writer Victor Hugo with his handwritten signature (EUR 2,500), a carriage clock from the nineteenth century that belonged to Mihail Kogalniceanu (EUR 900), and a letter of general Charles de Gaulle with his handwritten signature (EUR 800).

The auction also includes a postcard signed by Cuban President Fidel Castro, a collection of business cards which belonged to personalities from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, a letter of Russian President Mikhail Gorbachev with his handwritten signature, a photo of Louis Armstrong with autograph, a French-Romanian vocabulary from 1841, and old icons and photos.

The exhibition can be seen at Cesianu-Racovita Palace in Bucharest until November 23, and the auction will take place on November 24 at Athenee Palace Hilton.

Vadim, who was the founder of the Romania Mare (Great Romania) Party and one of the most influential political figures in the years after the Romanian Revolution, died on September 14, at age 65. He was known for his passion for history and culture.
