New party gathers signatures to join Romania's parliamentary race
Romanian mathematician and activist Nicusor Dan, the founder and president of the Save Romania Union party (USR), announced yesterday on his Facebook page that the party managed to gather the 200,000 signatures needed to participate in the parliamentary elections on December 11.
He asked his supporters to help raise another 20,000 signatures “to avoid any risk” at the Central Electoral Bureau.
The law demands parties that want to take part in parliamentary elections to raise at least 200,000 signatures. This makes it particularly hard for new parties to enter the parliamentary race in Romania.
Nicusor Dan wrote that his party will fight in the Parliament to increase the access of citizens to the public life and to remove such requests to gather hundreds of thousands of signatures.
