Number of customers in Bucharest Old Town’s clubs drops by 40%

06 November 2015

Last Friday’s tragedy in Bucharest’s club Colectiv, in which 32 people died and another 180 were injured after a fire broke during a rock concert, has emotionally affected the customers of the clubs in Bucharest’s Old Town. Their number has dropped by 30-40%, said Remus Nica, co-owner of the Vintage and Finnish clubs located in the area.

After the mourning days in the weekend, when clubs were closed, they have resumed their activity during the week. However, the number of clients has significantly dropped. The tragedy’s psychological impact determined many Romanians to avoid entering clubs, said Nica, reports Profit.ro.

The tragic events in Colectiv club also made the people aware of the low safety in many of Bucharest’s clubs, as some of them are located at the ground floor or basement of old buildings that haven’t been consolidated and are at risk to fall at any time during an earthquake.

Some club owners have announced in recent days that they would close down their clubs to fix the safety issues while the authorities have started to control the clubs more thoroughly. Meanwhile, about 130 of the 180 people who got injured in Colectiv are still in hospitals, some of them still fighting for their lives.
