The Bucharest metro system carried over 122 million passengers in the first nine months of 2013, according to Romania's Transport Ministry. The year before, 172 million passengers had traveled by metro in Bucharest.

The average number of commuters by metro was of 600,000 a day in the first nine months of 2013.

The Bucharest metro system is 70 kilometers long, and has 51 stations. The authorities are working on building 6.5 kilometers on the fifth line, Râul Doamnei-Haşdeu (Operă).

The Bucharest metro company Metrorex has 44 Bombardier trains and 33 IVA trains running in the underground network.
