Philadelphia Opera takes over Bucharest Opera production of La Traviata

The Philadelphia Opera decided to take over Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata staged at the Bucharest National Opera House by Paul Curran. This is a first in the Bucharest Opera's history.

The show premiered at the Bucharest Opera on October 30, 2014, and marked the opening of the opera’s season. David Levy, vice-president of Philadelphia Opera, was among the guests of the show’s premiere. As he was impressed of the show’s quality, he expressed the intention to take over the performance. After several rounds of negotiations between the two institutions, they’ve reached an agreement and the show was staged in the US on October 2 this year, reports local Mediafax. The American premiere was sold out.

The following La Traviata representations at the Philadelphia Opera are scheduled for Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday this week. Moreover, on October 16, the show will be screened in HD in the Independence National Park.

Three rising Romanian artists play the main roles in this production: soprano Aurelia Florian, tenor Ioan Hotea, and bariton Ionut Popescu.

La Traviata  production will return in the 2015-2016 season at the Bucharest National Opera.
