Phone calls to anti-corruption line trigger 17 prosecutions in six months
The Anti-Corruption Green line was called 4,600 times in the last six months, and the majority of callers wanted to denounce bribery offences, according to anti-corruption officials, quoted by Mediafax. The number of calls to denounce corruption activities was similar to the same period of 2013, when 65 more calls were registered.
The calls resulted in 17 prosecution files, and five people were caught red handed following phone calls to the corruption line. However, the number of prosecutions following such calls was lower year-on-year: in the first six months of 2013, there were 32 prosecution files.
The Anti-Corruption line has been running since 2005. Officers from the Anti- Corruption Directorate answer calls on this line every Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 16:00. Outside schedule, people can voice mail messages.
