PM: Integrated health system, health card and electronic prescription to be introduced by 2011
Romania will use an integrated information system in its health sector, which includes the introduction of a health card, the electronic chart and the electronic prescription, which it hopes to introduce by the end of next year. This could save the country some EUR 300 million, according to Prime Minister Emil Boc.
This information system should have been done ever since 2002, but failed to be finalized. It should connect hospitals and pharmacies, among others, and it should offer more transparency in the system.
The national health card will include each patient's medical history, as well as the proof of payments to health fund, which would eliminate the bureaucracy.
These programs have a EUR 50 million funding put aside from the European Union and the National health Insurance House (CNAS) needs to implement them and attract the dedicated funds.
