Praktiker sees sales down 30% in first quarter Romania

German Do-it-Yourself retailer Praktiker's sales in Romania fell in the first quarter of this year by 29.5 percent to EUR 25.8 million. In RON, the revenues decreased by 27.7 percent, according to Praktiker's financial report.

“Sales in countries like Greece and Romania, which usually have the greatest contribution to international business revenues, have declined significantly due to difficult macroeconomic conditions”, shows the report.

Praktiker's sales in Romania have dropped by 21.8 percent to EUR 193.6 million in 2010, and the group announced in March that the revenues could also reduce this year. At a group level, first quarter sales fell by 10.9 percent to EUR 666.4 million, and losses before interest, taxes and amortization climbed 37.3 percent to EUR 71.6 million. Praktiker German Group owns the largest network of Do-it-Yourself stores on the Romanian market with 27 units, and until 2009 it was the market leader.
