Raed Arafat to resign as Under Secretary of State on Health after dispute with President Traian Basescu

Raed Arafat, Under Secretary of State in Romania's Health Ministry and coordinator of the Mobile Emergency Service for Resuscitation and Extrication (SMURD) plans to resign from his seat at the Health Ministry. The decision comes after his dispute with President Traian Basescu and other officials from the Ministry of Health on the upcoming health reform law.

Raed Arafat was appointed Under Secretary of State for Health on August 23, 2007, by a decision signed by the Prime Minister then, Calin Popescu Tariceanu. In the ministry, Raed Arafat was in charge of emergency medicine. He is also the coordinator of the Mobile Emergency Service for Resuscitation and Extrication (SMURD).
