Top U.S. universities race for best Romanian informatics brain
Three of the top universities in the U.S., M.I.T., Stanford and Harvard, are currently racing to convince a Romanian informatics student to join them.
Rares Buhai, a Romanian high-school student from Bistrita, managed to catch the attention of the three famous schools after winning three gold medals at International Informatics Olympiads in the past three years. No other Romanian student can boast with such a performance.
Buhai aims to compete this year for the fourth and last time in an international informatics Olympiad, as he finishes high-school this summer.
Regardless of his result this year, he will surely go to the U.S. to continue his studies, as M.I.T., Stanford and Harvard have already accepted his application, according to Mediafax newswire.
“I do not know yet which of these universities I will choose. It depends on what scholarships they will offer me,” Rares Buhai said. “Even if I haven’t decided yet on the university, I am 100% sure that I’m going to study in the U.S.,” he added.
He hopes to get another gold medal in the International Informatics Olympiad in Kazakhstan this year.
