Red Army Choir “invades” Bucharest stage in September
The Red Army Choir, one of Russia’s cultural symbols, will have a concert in Romania’s capital Bucharest, in September this year.
The concert will take place at the Palace Hall (Sala Palatului) on September 23.
The Red Army Choir is headquartered in Moscow near the Red Square, the Bolshoi Theatre and the Kremlin. It has 350 members that include singers, dancers, musicians, choreographers and conductors. About 100 artists travel for each international show.
Famous conductor Viktor Eliseev, also a General, has been leading the choir since 1974. Together Eliseev and the Red Army Choir had concerts in more than 50 countries. Their most recent tour in France drew more than 100,000 spectators in four sold-out concerts in Paris. The choir also performed at the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, in 2014.
The MVD Ensemble, which became better known as the Red Army Choir, is an official academic ensemble of Russia’s Ministry of Interior of the Russian. It was founded in 1939.
