Retail sales in Romania increased by 15.8% in August compared to the same month in 2016. It was the highest annual growth recorded among the EU member states, according to EU’s statistical office Eurostat.

Retail trade grew by 1.2% in the euro zone in August compared to the same month last year. The growth pace amounted to 2% in the European Union.

The retail trade in EU was influenced by the 3.3% increase in the sales of non-food products, as well as the 1.2% growth in sales of food, beverages and tobacco. Fuel sales increased by 0.8% in EU in August.

The retail sales in Romania went up by 2.3% in August compared to the previous month. It was the highest monthly increase in the EU.

Retail trade rose by 0.5% in August compared to July in EU and the euro zone.
