Retail trade turnover goes up 9.7% in Romania in September

Romania’s retail trade turnover, considered the most important indicator of household consumption, advanced by 9.7% in September compared to the same period last year.

The growth pace was lower compared to the one recorded in the previous months, according to the National Statistics Institute (INS).

However, Romania still recorded the second highest growth in retail trade among the EU countries in September compared to the same period last year, after Luxembourg, according to EU’s statistical office Eurostat. The growth was mainly supported by the sale of fuel and non-food goods.

The highest growth pace in the last months was recorded in February, when the retail trade turnover went up by 21.8%.

The retail trade grew by 15.5% year-on-year during the first nine months of the year compared to the same period last year.
