Romania, third in region for gaming revenues

27 October 2014

Romania ranks third in its region and 39th in the world for revenues generated by gaming, according to an analysis of Newzoo, which provides research into the gaming industry.

Gaming generates revenues of USD 122 million in Romania, and in the region this is outpaced only by Russia – which also comes 12th in the world – USD 1.1 billion, and by Poland, number 23rd in the world, with USD 280 million in revenues. Revenues generated by gaming include everything clients buy, both hardware and software.

The first countries in the world are the US – with USD 20.5 billion generated by gaming, followed by China – UDF 17.8 billion, and Japan – USD 12.2 billion. However, much of the amount generated by gaming in Romania does not necessarily go through local companies – only half, said Silviu Stroie, CEO of ComputerGames.ro, quoted by Wall-Street.ro.

But the number of gamers in Romania has been increasing constantly in recent years, and gaming competitions are being organized locally. DreamHack will have its fourth edition this week.
