Romania doubles bank deposit guarantee threshold to EUR 100,000
Romania has increased the guarantee threshold for bank deposits from EUR 50,000 to EUR 100,000 while reducing the number of days from deposit unavailability until payment from 90 to 20. The two changes have been enforced from January 1, 2011, after the Romanian Government issued an Emergency Ordinance on December 28 last year.
Romania thus complies with the European Union ruling on bank deposit guarantees, according to the Bank Deposit Guarantee Fund (FGDB).
