30 March 2012

The European Union will co-finance to the sum of over EUR 5 million a project that aims to improve River Information Services (RIS) in Europe.  The EU member states involved in this action are Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia, and the implementation of the project is scheduled for December 2014. The total cost of the project is EUR 10.4 million, and the EU contribution amounts to EUR 5.2 million. Find more information here.

The European Commission previously announced the projects selected to receive over EUR 160 million in EU co-financing from the trans-European transport network (TEN-T) program to continue improving transport infrastructure across the EU. The 2011 Multi-Annual Programme Call aims to finance the highest priorities of the TEN-T network, focusing on three areas:  Motorways of the Sea - providing viable alternatives for congested roads by shifting freight to sea routes – seven projects selected, EUR 47.8 million in funding;  River Information Services (RIS), involving traffic management infrastructure on the inland waterway network – four projects selected, EUR 10.2 million in funding; and European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) – 15 projects selected, EUR 103.3 million in funding.
