Romania maintains fourth place in Deloitte CE Top 500

Romania ranked fourth among the countries in the region in 2015 with 46 companies among the 500 biggest in Central and Eastern Europe, according to the Deloitte CE Top 500 report.

The best ranked local companies included Automobile Dacia, OMV Petrom, and Rompetrol Rafinare. The Romanian firms, which were listed in the Deloitte ranking, had total revenues of EUR 46.4 billion, slightly up compared to the previous year.

The retail recorded the biggest growth rate in Romania last year, and the companies in this field posted an annual growth of 17.8% compared to 2014. Retail companies accounted for 20% of the total Romanian firms listed in the Deloitte CE Top 500.

In terms of generated revenue, though strongly affected by oil price decline, the energy & resources sector has been an important contributor to Romania’s ranking by bringing EUR 17 billion, followed by consumer business with EUR 15 billion.

Dacia ranked 25th, with revenues of EUR 4.3 billion. It was followed by OMV Petrom, ranked 27th, with a turnover of EUR 4 billion, and Rompetrol Rafinare, ranked 52th, with revenues of EUR 2.5 billion.

Energy trader Tinmar (up 92 places to the 308th), retailers Lidl (up by 79 places to 185th), and Mega Image (up 74 places to 266th) were the biggest Romanian jumpers. Another retailer, Profi Rom Food, was the company with the biggest revenue growth rate of 38%.

Polish company PKN Orlen ranked first in the Deloitte CE Top 500 report. It was followed by Hungarian oil group MOL and Czech car producer Skoda Auto. The full report is available here.
