Romania spends EUR 3.5 mln to clone a piece of its Danube Delta at the Milan World Fair

17 February 2015

Romania’s pavilion at this year’s edition of the universal exhibition, Expo Milano 2015, will be a contemporary interpretation of a traditional village in the Danube Delta, according to Georgian Ghervasie, Romania’s general commissioner at Expo Milano 2015.

Romania's Foreign Affairs Ministry has allocated a EUR 3.5 million budget for this project, which aims to show an intricate view of the country’s characteristics, resources, and potential.

“The key message we want to transmit is related to living in harmony with nature, which is similar to the general theme of the exhibition,” said Ghervasie, cited by local Agerpres.

The visitors will be invited to discover the country’s rich culture, its natural resources, as well as its ecological solutions adopted to promote sustainable development.

The pavilion will be structured on two levels, the ground floor, and the first floor respectively.

“The first floor is dedicated to tradition and is represented by a typical Romanian house made of wood and glass, with a roof made of reeds. There will be a restaurant inside, surrounded by a garden that we’ll try to keep alive throughout the exhibition. Biodiversity is one of the country’s most valued treasures,” Georgian Ghervasie added.

Expo Milano 2015 is a universal exhibition organized between May 1 and October 31, 2015. The theme chosen for this edition is "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life".

The Expo hopes to welcome over 20 million visitors to its 1.1 million sqm exhibition area. More than 140 countries will participate in the event.
