Romania, third in the EU for net money inflows from individuals

Romania registered net inflow of personal transfers worth EUR 1.5 billion, in 2014, the third-highest among the European Union’s 28 member states. It was surpassed by Portugal, with EUR 3.6 billion net inflows, and Poland, with EUR 2.5 billion, according to the EU’s statistics office Eurostat.

The ranking was similar in 2013 when the surplus recorded by Romania was a bit higher, amounting to EUR 1.7 billion. Portugal saw the biggest inflows with EUR 4.8 billion, followed by Poland with EUR 2.8 billion, the UK (EUR 2.4 bln), and Italy (EUR 2.1 bln).

France recorded the largest outflow of funds from personal transfers (EUR 9.4 billion). United Kingdom came next, with EUR 6.8 billion, followed by Italy (EUR 6.5 bln), and Spain (EUR 5.9 bln).

Romania recorded EUR 421 million outflows, slightly higher compared to 2013 (EUR 411 million). The personal transfers abroad were higher than in Poland (EUR 167 million), Hungary (EUR 99 mln), and Sweden (EUR 291 mln).
