Bucharest metro company Metrorex recently announced the tender for the construction of the sixth metro line in the city, connecting the existing network to the Henri Coanda airport. The estimated value of this contract is of some EUR 1 billion and the new metro line should be ready in 2017 – 2018.

The tender will start on September 3 this year. Local authorities previously hired a consortium made of Padeco (Japan)/Oriental Consultants (Japan)/Metroul SA Romania/Seneca Group International/Systra (France) to offer consultancy on the project.

Financing will be covered jointly from the state budget and from a loan guaranteed by the state. The 14-kilometre line will have 12 stations and should be finished within 60 months from the start of contribution work.

The Bucharest metro network has a length of 67 kilometers, divided into four lines with 49 stations in total.
