Romanian businessman Irinel Columbeanu plans to run  in 2012 for the City Hall in Bucharest as independent candidate. He has recently announced his intention through a video posted on the internet. “I have the courage to sign up in this year’s competition and to get the trust necessary to the future mayor of the capital city for the next four years,” he said during the video.

Irinel Columbeanu holds several companies that run business in areas such as construction and communications. His fortune was estimated at EUR 150 million in 2007, EUR 40 million in 2008, and down to EUR 7 million in 2009.

In Romania he was in the spotlight, getting public attention last year due to his of divorce of Monica Gabor.
