Romanian companies, second-to-last in the EU for online sales
Only 8% of all enterprises in Romania did online sales in 2014, the second lowest share in the European Union. Greece came last, with a 7% share, while Bulgaria was ahead of Romania, with 9%, according to official data published by the European Statistics Office - Eurostat.
Almost one in five (19%) enterprises in the EU did online sales, with the highest percentages registered in Ireland (32%), Sweden (28%), Denmark and Germany (both 27%).
Romania was also third-to-last in the EU in terms of e-sales to total turnover ratio, with 8%, ahead of Greece (1%), and Bulgaria (5%). Ireland (37%) and the Czech Republic (30%) were on top while the EU average was 17%.
Slightly more companies in Romania made online purchases, as the trend was similar throughout the EU. The share of enterprises purchasing electronically was 14% last year, still far below the EU average of 40%.
