Romanian conductor Ion Marin (in picture) will receive the Echo award in Berlin for sales of the album Legacy, recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and violinist David Garret. The awards ceremony is on October 14 in the German capital. The album has sold over 200,000 copies in Germany and has already received a double gold disk in the UK, where sales exceeded 300,000 copies.

The album Legacy united the talents of Ion Marin, one of Romania's most highly rated conductors, and the acclaimed violin virtuoso David Garret with the Royal Philharmonic, one of the world's 'premier league' orchestras.

The Echo Awards are given annually by Deutsche Phono-Akademie, an association of German record labels. The awards are for music sales and a pop and a classical Echo Award are given each year to the best selling artists in Germany.

Ion Marin, son of the renowned conductor  Constantin Marin, graduated from the Bucharest Conservatoire in 1983. Since then, he has conducted the world's leading symphony orchestras, as well as conducting many operas. He is no stranger to awards, having received three Grammy nominations, the Deustch Schallplatten Critic and Diapason d'Or awards, as well as a BBC Classic award.
