Romanian farmers to sell melons in Lidl stores in Czech Republic
An association of Romanian farmers based in the Ialomita county, supplier of the German retailer Lidl, will sell melons in the Lidl supermarkets in the Czech Republic.
Eight trucks will depart every week from Ialomita to the Czech consumers, reports local Economica.net. The melons are produced in the village of Gheorghe Doja, Ialomita county.
This represents the first fresh Romanian product reaching the Lidl stores across borders.
Between March 2015 and February 2016, Lidl Romania exported goods of EUR 26.5 million. This included oils and fats, paper products, fish, beer, commodities, pastries, cheese, cold meat, and or sweets.
Deliveries will be made over a period of about two months and will total approximately 1,200 tons of melons.
