Romanian Health Minister has decided to increase the salaries of the employees in the health sector by 10%, according to official sources, cited by local Digi24. The growth would enter into force starting October. The salaries will increase for doctors, but also for nurses.

The decision was taken after thousands of doctors have threatened to start a general strike. They were furious, after the Supreme Court decided that doctors had a similar status as civil servants and were not allowed to receive donations or gifts from patients.

Over 24,000 Romanian doctors have joined a Facebook group where they are discussing about a general strike due to the small salaries, old infrastructure and lack of medicines.
