Romanian media says Prince Albert of Monaco was in love with Romanian swimmer Potec
Romanian swimmer Camelia Potec attracted the attention of Prince Albert of Monaco (in picture) long before his marriage to former South – African swimmer Charlene Wittstock. The information has recently emerged after Potec's former coach, Doina Sava, told the media that the Prince of Monaco fell in love with Potec in 2000. Back then, Potec, now 29, took part in the Mare Nostrum event in Monte Carlo in 2000, when she first caught the eye of the prince. Potec admitted that the Prince asked her to sit as his table after the Mare Nostrum event.
Camelia Potec won Gold at the Athens Olympics in 2004 for the 200 m freestyle swimming. Prince Albert of Monaco, 53, got married on July 1 this year to Charlene Wittstock, who is 20 years younger than him. Princess Charlene represented South Africa in the swimming competitions at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Prince Albert II has been the ruler of Monaco since the death of his father, Prince Rainier III, in 2005.
